Home to headquarters of companies like Walmart, J.B. Hunt and Tyson Foods, there’s a lot of money floating around up there which has led to a ton of growth. While Arkansas is probably considered a “fly over state,” it’s certainly a hidden gem, it’s called the Natural State for a reason (SO much beauty!), and it’s also known as one of the mountain biking capitals of the world. We traveled here over the summer with our two daughters, 7 months and 3.5 years at the time. There’s a lot happening in Bentonville, you just have to know where to go!
Where to Stay
21C Museum Hotel – 21C was my sister’s wedding hotel, and it didn’t disappoint. It’s upscale, fun, and in close proximity to Crystal Bridges, a highlight in Bentonville!
Trailhead Mews – We stayed here over the summer, and I loved the 3 levels that came with a beautiful kitchen, multiple living areas and bedrooms.
Trailside at the Momentary – This three bedroom home is only steps from the Downtown Bike/Walk Trail (providing access to 37 mile Greenway Trail) and within easy walking distance to Market District, the Momentary, downtown square, restaurants, bars, bike shops, and awesome boutiques.
Do/Eat/Play
Onyx Coffee – A world-famous Arkansas roastery. Do it for the caffeine, do it for the gram, do it for your stamina when traveling with kids.
Bentonville Farmer’s Market – Open April to October with fresh local fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses and crafts.
Scott Family Amazeum – Fun for the whole family (but mostly the kids), this place is pure magic for them.
The Walmart Museum – Did you really go to Bentonville if you didn’t step inside the Walmart museum? Take a journey through its heritage.
Super fine Sweets Shoppe – Homemade treats in a big yellow shop. Go here for an serotonin hit.
Mountain Biking – It’s the mountain biking capital of the U.S. Maybe the world, some even say? Nowhere else can you find an extensive network of nearly 70 miles of trails running throughout the city, seamlessly connected to the 400-mile award-winning systems across the bluffs of Northwest Arkansas.
Cafe Louise – Modern all-day cafe located in the Fieldhouse at Thaden Field. Serves diner-style breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner! Watch planes take-off from Thaden Field as you eat.
Oven and Tap – Named for its custom built wood fired oven & tap wall, our favorite pizza joint is located just off the downtown Bentonville square.
The Preacher’s Son – Located inside a restored church, you’ll certainly be praising a higher power after having dinner here.
Blake Street – If I lived in Bentonville, I’d love to become a member here. The social atmosphere, community, pool, fitness center and work spaces are all warm and inviting. It truly feels like a home away from home.
The Momentary – A decommissioned cheese factory-turned-creative-hub and extension of Crystal Bridges, this place has it all from live music, captivating art and an amazing event calendar.
Crystal Bridges – Saved the best for last! Crystal Bridges holds incredible American art and exhibitions with a renowned collection ranging from Rockwell to Warhol. With stunning architecture and 120 acres of Ozark nature, it’s not wonder why my sister decided to have her wedding here. The best perk? General admission is always free.
