This week marked 7 years without my boobs. Don’t get me wrong, I have them…but instead of breast tissue that might kill me one day, they’re filled with silicone and cadaver material.

Normally it would be another year of getting older, another year of moving further away from such an experience. With time comes processing. With processing comes healing. With healing comes release - release of trauma, pain and any ties to the old me. Yes, normally it would be just another year, but this year I have a baby in my arms again. This year, I’m reminded of the fact that I still can’t breastfeed.

This year, I still don’t care. You see a nipple is a nipple whether it’s attached to a body or a bottle. I look down into her big brown eyes and receive the same beautiful bonding experience as the next mama who is just trying to feed her baby.

This year, I have two daughters to take care of. I wonder about their fate and where the dice will fall, but I don’t lose sleep over it. My own mom gave me the knowledge and thus power to do something about it, and I will pass on that same gift one day.

I look forward to the time when I can confidently tell them that I made a decision at 29 years old that didn’t just change the way they were fed as a baby, but would allow them to have a mother who did everything she possibly could to be around for as long as she possibly could.

Seven years ago today, I had my breasts removed for me.

For health.
For life.
For freedom.

Today, I know it was ultimately for them.

Happy Totality Day! It’s like a holiday - the kids are out of school and there are lots of visitors in the state today. We woke up to clear skies and hoping for the best! Here at Lake Ouachita in Arkansas, we’re smack dab in the middle of the path of totality with 4 minutes and 15 seconds of darkness when the moon blocks the sun’s light to earth.

Eclipse comes from the Greek word that means “abandonment” because the sun briefly abandons us. Think of a solar eclipse as a very potent new moon. In astrology, new moons represent new beginnings. They forecast metamorphosis and collective transformation which is WILD because we literally woke up to what appeared to be the final stages of a caterpillar becoming a butterfly this AM on the front deck🦋something I’d never seen before!

The eclipse falls in the sign of Aries with themes like autonomy, freedom, courage, and confidence. Maybe it’s asking us to tap into our inner strength. And just as the moon blocks the sun during a solar eclipse, we’re asked to release whatever is standing in our way.
