I love capturing a variety of things. My favorite thing to capture with my Canon is people. Specifically people in their own environment where the photo tells their story all on its own. Whether your story is told in the mountains because its who you are, or in a rocking chair because thats where you ponder life. Thats what I love to capture. Traveling is amazing, but the people that travel and are captured are the ones with the stories.

Let me preface this is with the fact that I LOVE PHOTOGRAPHY. It is my PASSION to travel, photograph, and civil engineer for developing countries. I have been using the same Canon DSLR for 7 years and could finally afford a new camera, the mirrorless FujiFilm XT1, this month! It took all the money I had though so I can’t afford an amazing bag like this one that I desperately need when traveling! I would be ETERNALLY GRATEFUL to win this bag!!!
My favorite subject to photograph is that in its own world, so candid shots, especially children and lovers. Children represent such sweet innocence; its beautiful to see them playing in honest fun. It touches my heart. Lovers represent such emotion, lust, and passion; they all have a story. Then candid is really the cherry on top because then you know they are in their natural, unpressured state!
PLEASE consider me for this prize. I will use it for years all over the world!

My worn out old pentax would fit so nicely in this bag :). It’s expensive to do film, but I really love the unexpected results I sometimes get when I print it. I miss having darkroom access. I do hope to get a DSLR someday when I can afford one, but I don’t think I’ll stop shooting film, either.
I absolutely love getting candid shots of people–friends, strangers, it doesn’t matter. I love capturing the tiny moments of emotion that flicker over people’s faces. I think this can be especially magic when taking portraits of kids, because they haven’t learned yet to control or hide their expressions the way adults do.
I also love the way photography can capture light in a way nothing else can. Morning light, for instance–the windows reflected on the walls–is so transient, but a black and white photograph traps it in such a beautiful way.
Two that maybe show these things (if you’re still reading my long post haha)…as a New Yorker, I cannot stand Times Square, but this little girl’s face looking up at all the lights makes it seem magic. It’s also the strangest kind of light, because you can see the sky is dark, but the buildings make it as bright as day: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=3540129417125&l=2c2bcce3f3

I’ve loved taking photos for as long as I can remember. And not just to upload. It’s the memories that are so important to me; the moments that I get to relive over and over in my mind every time I see the photographs — the moments that stay colorful and vivid memories no matter how much time has passed because I have the photographs.
I have been to some incredible places in my life and have had some unforgettable experiences, and each one is committed to film. There are some nights where I spend hours just going through old pictures. I never intend for it to happen, but sometimes I’ll open up one picture, and four hours later I’m transported back to romping around Paris as a student abroad, or Walking through the jungle in Panama, or standing on the top of the Empire State Building.
I will never stop documenting these moments. I will never stop traveling.
