I traveled to Palm Springs this week for a business trip and stayed with The Parker Hotel. While the grounds are nothing short of STUNNING (two pools, bocce ball, fire pits, Psych Spa, not to mention a recent Jonathan Adler redesign…read: eccentric glamour), the 112 degree temp was all-consuming. At times, I didn’t even want to leave the comfort of my room because it was so cozy and cool, both in that it was fashionably attractive and more importantly, at a fairly low temperature. I needed a workout and started doing my usual routine while away – but decided to document if for y’all this time.
The key to hotel room workouts is to use everything around you. See that mini bar? Wine bottles can absolutely double as weights. The foot stool? You can probably squat with it. The couch can quickly turn into a bench. The list goes on…

ARMS
You can work your triceps, chest and shoulders with just a bench. I’ve even used the edge of a bathtub before because, well, bathtubs 🙂 Hold your body at arm’s length with your arms nearly locked above the bench. Slowly lower yourself downward and push your torso back up to bring your body back to the starting position. 3 sets of 20 reps.
For bench push ups, bend your elbows and lower your body at an angle towards the bench. Make sure to keep your butt down and not sky high in the air (it’s harder than you might think). Once your elbows are bent to a 90 degree angle, push yourself back up to a starting position. 3 sets of 15 reps. (A great exercise for building chest muscles after mastectomy surgery!)

LEGS
This squat + arm move works a few different muscle groups – a great thing especially if you’re short on time. Combine them for a well-rounded station or separate them into 25 squats and then 12 lifts. Repeat 3x.
BUNS
Many workouts can come from a bed…but here’s a good butt move for ya 😉 Start with one leg pointed towards the floor and slowly move it parallel to the floor for 20 reps. Pop it up at the end for a 10 rep finish. Repeat on the other side. Follow for 3 sets.
ABS
If you’ve never heard me talk about 8 Minute Abs, perhaps you don’t follow me very closely because I LOVE IT AND ALL ITS 80S GLORY. However, if you aren’t feeling a full 8 minutes, 25 reps of scissors kicks for 3 sets (switch legs back and forth with head and shoulders off the ground) or the boat pose ab exercise (head, shoulders and legs off the ground to pulse up) is better than nothin’. These are probably a bit easier on the floor, but I get it if you wanna be a bedhead all morning.
STRETCH
Obviously you don’t need to be inverted or try a fancy yoga move to stretch. The important thing to remember is to actually do it. Lots of people skip this step, but it’s one of the most important movements!

Aw, this was an incredibly good post. Taking a few minutes and actual effort to create a top notch article… but what can I say… I hesitate a whole lot and don’t manage to get anything done.
