10 Comfy Outfit Ideas During Postpartum
Entering the postpartum phase is quite the journey and even if you’re prepared, it’s still often overwhelming. If you’re reading this with a sleeping newborn in one hand and your eyes half shut, I’m right here with you. My womb is healing and my heart is outside of my chest, but my body doesn’t quite feel like my own yet. No matter your birth story or your support system, it can be a physical and emotional rollercoaster and a crucial time for self-care and comfort. Choosing soft and flowy pieces that feel great ON the body might just make you feel good IN your body. Here are my comfortable outfits for newborn cuddles, family visits, errands, fall festivities, and beyond!
Outfit 1: Sweater and leggings never fail
Seraphine sweater | Target maternity leggings | Amazon pillow slides
This nursing-friendly Seraphine sweater was my go-to for the 3rd trimester and is still my go-for school pickups and other out-of-the-house errands. I find it runs on the bigger size and would size down. I pair everything with leggings these days. The AB soft leggings from Addison Bay and Target maternity are my current in rotation. I did a maternity denim haul during my first pregnancy and continued to live in these jeans in the postpartum season round 2. Any mama who wants to upgrade the outfit with some denim, power to ya! Slide into my favorite Amazon pillow slides or go for a walk in my favorite Rothy sneakers.
Outfit 2: Crewneck leggings combo

Athleisure leads my life in every season, but this outfit allows for easy movement and ensures you stay cozy throughout the day. The crewneck is my FAVORITE thing (also have it in pink!). The leggings are super soft and the waistband provides a gentle hug (not squeeze) to support around the postpartum belly.
Outfit 3: A set is a lifesaver

Elevate your loungewear with a matching sweater set. It’s effortlessly stylish and incredibly comfortable, but do size up for a cozy fit because the waistband is not the most forgiving for a recovering midsection. Talk about ideal for casual outings or when friends and family stop by to love on the newest family addition. The coordinated look brings a touch of put-together charm with minimal effort.
Outfit 4
A sweater skirt combo? Count me in! This beauty is another favorite that transitions nicely from the third to fourth trimester. If you’re a breastfeeding mama, this is the perfect dress for an elevated look with maximum comfort and easy access.
Outfit 5: Nightshirt jammies

If you know my fashion sense, you may be sensing a theme… I like dresses – daytime and night! Motherhood has truly made me a sleep dress/nightshirt/nightgown lover, and this one from Amazon is such a great price point and material. I’ll throw my Hatch robe on for extra coziness for late night feeds, chilly mornings, and every moment in between at home.
Outfit 6: Pajama shirts all-day
My mom gifted me this Sanctuary nightshirt from Dillard’s and it is just my style. Soooo soft to the touch and paired with the Vionic slippers, ya just can’t go wrong.
Outfit 7: Pajama set
Gotta love a complete pajama set that strikes the right balance between comfort and style. Eberjey is trending in the world of fashion blogging and gift giving because they are SO lux, SO soft, and SO worth every penny. I have two pairs that are aging beautifully with lots of re-wears.
Elevated outfits: For the Fall
Sweater dress | Midi dress | Maternity maxi
If dresses are your comfort zone like me, all three of these Madewell finds are great options for any Thanksgiving feasts or fall festivities. WIth plenty of space and length for maximum comfort and elevated style, I’d pair any of these styles with these chunky heel boots and this wool scarf for a complete look!
Postpartum clothing is made for you – not the other way around. Prioritize comfort and practicality to make you feel ‘put together.’ These outfit ideas are not just about looking good; they’re about feeling great during a transformative period. Whether you’re navigating the challenges of postpartum recovery or simply seeking outfits that accommodate your new role as a mom, I hope these cozy choices make the journey a bit more comfortable and a lot more stylish. 🙂
