I had NO clue what to expect with maternity jeans, and let me tell ya…what an experiment it’s been. Turns out they can be made a few different ways. Different strokes for different folks! There are three main types of maternity jeans: under-belly waistband, over-belly waistband, and side stretch panel. Personally, I like the side stretch panel because they resemble normal jeans the most. With that being said, I can completely understand how mamas-to-be would go for the over-belly waistband for more of a supported, light compression feel.

The Maternity Kick Flare Crop
Size: 27; If you’re between sizes, Hatch recommends sizing up 1 size in both washes if you’re between the sizes of 25 – 29. If you’re between the sizes of 30-32, they recommend sizing up 2 sizes. These jeans fit me right now, but I’m afraid I don’t have much more room to grow!
Why I love: These get a 5 star rating in my book! I love the way the side panel stretch makes me feel like I could be wearing normal jeans…because we need to hold on to all the normalcy we can get these days! I was hesitant about the flare deatil at the bottom but am in complete LOVE. Comes in classic and white wash.

Maternity Over-The-Belly Toothpick Jean
Size: 26; I found these to run slightly large due to the stretch – but I’ll undoubtedly grow into them!
Why I love: I always gravitate towards a skinny jeans…so I love the toothpick fit through the ankle. They come fitted through hip and thigh, with an over-the-belly band for added support. SO comfy with the amount of stretch but still come with a polished look.

Articles of Society Secret Fit Belly Mya Skinny
Size: 27; Articles of Society note on size is to order the same size as you were pre-pregnancy.
Why I love: I could’ve gone with a size 26 right now, but I’m glad I went with a 27 because this dark wash denim is the biggest pair of maternity jeans I own right now – which ultimately means they’ll be my most frequented pair of pants through winter/my third trimester! The reviews on A Pea in the Pod were amazing, so I decided to go for it – happy I did 🙂
JOE’S Secret Fit Belly Fray Hem Maternity Shorts
Size: 28
Why I love: These light-wash maternity shorts were my BFF in Tahiti during the babymoon. While it’s hard to beat a flowy maxi dress over the bump, I loved having the option of throwing these on with a top while in transit. I will say – they run small so definitely size up!
